November Reimbursement Lesson

As a Registered Dietitian:

  • Are you bringing in $$ to your department for your outpatient dietetic services?
  • Is your department taking advantage of your billable outpatient hours?

Hope so, but a NPI is required.**

What is a NPI-National Provider Identification number?

It is an important number to have as a healthcare provider.  The NPI number is a replacement for Social Security and is required before applying for Medicare number.  As a dietitian, I  have worked at two institutions that financially benefited form the RD.  Make sure your instititution is taking advantage of the NPI.  Be proactive and ask your managers, your institution!  Learn more about it http://www.eatright.org/coverage.

Once you have a NPI healthcare provider number, it will never expire.  Each time you change your institution, you will electronically change the place of employment on your records-a very simple step to do.  Make sure you show how much we are worth!
