Dietary Fats and Cardiovascular Health in Diabetes: What does the science say?

Diabetes mellitus increases the risk for cardiovascular disease (CVD). Diabetes is associated with a three to fourfold increase in risk of coronary artery disease and is the leading cause of death in individuals with diabetes who are over the age of 35 years. Studies have shown that up to 60% of adults with diabetes have hypertension and nearly all have one or more lipid abnormalities that are less commonly present in people who do not have diabetes.
