This is a American Association of Diabetes Educators (AADE) pre-conference event. The program will help practioners negotiate the medically complex, metabolically unstable hyperglycemic patient throughout their hospitalization to discharge and will address issues related to physiologic alterations and system dysfunction that we grapple with.

Team Management of Diabetes at International Diabetes Center

Dates: Aug. 20th, 21st and 22nd, 2008

Event description
The symposium will focus on team-based, patient-centered, diabetes care and will emphasize how diabetes care integrates resources from many disciplines and fields. It will highlight the latest therapies, technologies and research that are impacting diabetes care and demonstrate how a team approach can help improve outcomes.

4th Annual Diabetes Symposium for Primary Care Providers

Dates: Aug. 22nd and 23rd, 2008

Event description
The 4th Annual Diabetes Symposium for Primary Care Providers: Diabetes Prevention and Management from Primary Care Providers will take place at the Texas Heart Institute at St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital – The Denton A. Cooley Building in Houston, Texas. Glenn R. Cunningham, MD, and Mandeep Bajaj, MD, are Program Co-Directors for this symposium.
Marion Franz, Lois Jovanovic, and Ralph DeFronzo among faculty.

Program Objectives
This course has been designed for the primary care clinician. At the conclusion of this conference, the participant should be able to:

  • Discuss the pathophysiology of T2 Diabetes and the available treatments
  • Describe evaluation and treatment of hypertension, coronary artery disease, and heart failure in the patient with diabetes
  • Summarize current issues in the prevention of diabetes

Credit hours
Approval for 9.0 CPE for Registered Dietitians has been applied for with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR).

Diabetes Core Curriculum Workshop

Dates: October 13-16, 2008

Program Overview
The "Diabetes Core Curriculum Workshop" is a comprehensive diabetes update. The course is helpful for those studying for the CDE exam. It is approved for continuing education by agencies on the NCBDE approval list so it can be used for Continuing Education for recertification as a CDE or for RD Portfolios. Part of the process of recertifying as a diabetes educator is to assess what you know and what you need to learn. Since the course includes 8 self-assessment examinations, this course will help in this assessment.

What: A comprehensive diabetes update that is helpful to study for the CDE exam. Format - lecture, discussion, case studies, 8 self-assessment exams

When: October 13-16, 2008, four full days 8:30 AM - 5:30 PM

Where: Sheraton LaGuardia East Hotel, Queens, New York

Tuition: $765. Early discount rate $690 if registered by Sept 15, 2008 ; for course alumni or if 3 or more register together, the early discount fee is $650, Metropolitan NY Assoc of Diabetes Educators and Garden State Assoc of Diabetes Educators discount $675.
