Networking,
Continuing Professional Education Events, Reception
DCE sponsors educational sessions and a reception at ADA's
Food & Nutrition Conference & Exhibition, and provides presentations
at the American Association of Diabetes Educators Annual Meeting
and the American Overseas Dietetic Association Meeting.
DCE is also
involved with the program planning for the American Diabetes Association's
Post Graduate Course and Scientific Sessions.

Mentor
Network
This network links experienced diabetes nutrition professionals
with other DCE members seeking guidance in specific areas of practice.
Development of publications based on 2001 FNCE publication survey results include the reproducible educational slick “Ready, Set, Start Counting,” distributed to all DCE members in June 2003. Six other educational slicks have been released since that time, many of which are available on the slicks page.

International
Affairs:
In March 2005, DCE sponsored member Cindy Merrins
to present a session entitled “Diabetes MNT for the
Elderly” at the University of the West Indies Diabetes
Outreach Program in Ocho Rios, Jamaica.
DCE sponsored an educational session at the International
Congress of Dietetics in May 2004: “The Epidemic of
Childhood Obesity and Type 2 Diabetes: Current Research
and Treatment Strategies.” DCE participated as a
conference exhibitor and co-facilitated a roundtable with
the Canadian Diabetes Association. Forty-eight countries
were represented at the congress, with more than 800
contacts made.
Representation and presentation at the American Overseas Dietetic
Association (AODA) annual meeting and at the International Diabetes
Federation Congress in Paris, August 2003.

to improve reimbursement for diabetes self-management education
and medical nutrition therapy.
